Paramacharya, the Sage of Kanchi, on his 80th birthday, while being honoured on his birthday  had expressed  “ while I’m being honoured so much,  there are not many to take care of more learned Vedic scholars”. He also expressed concern at the dwindling number of learned Vedic Pandits who have been preserving the ancient traditions of our Sacred Heritage of the Vedas,these Veda Patis when they age ,  need support and  continued recognition.

Veda Pata Nidhi Trust was thus founded , at the instance of Paramacharya, in 1983, to honour the wish of the sage of Kanchi to provide a supplementary income and the honour such learned and indigent Pandits. Late T.S. Santhanam,Chairman of TVS group of companies was the Founder and late Nani A. Palkhivala was the first chairman of the Trust.

We honour such Vedic Pandits , who have  learnt  the moolam of at least one Veda Saka,  and  thus  have preserved the ancient tradition of our ancient heritage (Viz, the Vedas) ,  by providing a monthly honorarium to such Vedic Pandits  for their lifetime. It is to be noted that this trust would focus on honouring learned Pandits  for their sacred knowledge and  their effort in preserving the tradition but is not meant to be the sole source of  support  for their livelihood.

The Trust is currently honouring around 250 such Veda Patis who are more than 60 years of age . At  one earlier  point of time  in the long journey of the Trust (for 35 years  till now ) the Trust was supporting  around 600+  aged Vedic Pandits  on  a monthly basis)  and have  thus far cumulatively supported around  13000 annual honorariums to Vedic Pandits thus far .

To  live up  to spirit of our Paramacharya’s  vision for forming this Trust, it  has also been our endeavour to identify more Veda Patis,  from across India through other Vedic based organisations,  and thus increase the number of beneficiaries . It is our hope that by the mid next year we shall be able to  identify and double the number Veda Patis  being supported .

It is also our intention , considering the cost of living currently , to significantly increase the monthly honorarium amount to the Vedic Pandit based on the contributions received We are reaching to many noble hearted and kind  individuals to contribute   to this noble cause, a cause  that is  envisioned and initiated by Paramacharya himself  in 1983 .

 

We also conduct two cultural Programmes every year on Paramacharya’s  birthday and on the day Paramacharya left this earthly abode.

These programme centre around a particular theme depicting Paramacharya various  facets of life .
